Data, knowledge, information, wisdom
Information scientists find it useful to use these terms to describe different kinds of information. Data are the symbols on the page. The data become information when we know how they were collected and what they relate to. Information becomes knowledge as it is integrated within broader theoretical frameworks. Wisdom brings together explicit knowledge and intuitive understanding based on experience as well as learning.
